RMEL Report, February 2017

We've had a great start to 2017, opening our calendar year with "an ol' reliable" program our membership continues to value. For 12 years, RMEL has partnered with Steve Sax, General Manager, Murfreesboro Electric Department, to present the Introduction to the Electric Utility Workshop .  This workshop promotes a better understanding of the overall electric system, from the generator to the meter. It is so valuable for employees to have a better comprehension of the system beyond their cubicle walls. Having a grasp of the system operations promotes a comprehension of how their respective work contributes to the big picture of the production, transmission and distribution of electric energy. A strong turnout by our membership once again!  Thank you, Steve! Next, we took RMEL on the road to San Antonio for the Physical and Cyber Security Conference. Read more...

Thank you RMEL members for all of your participation with RMEL in 2016! We closed out the 2016 event calendar with a productive October and early November full of conferences, roundtables and planning sessions. The final event of the year was the planning session for the 2017 Fall Executive Leadership and Management Convention (set for September 17-19 in Tucson). This is one of the most important sessions where we put all of your feedback and the Vital Issues Forum results from September to work. Combined with what we now know (or don't know) from the election, members are continuing to put customers first in any political or regulatory scenario. Read more...

RMEL Report, September 2016

It's September, and that means we've just wrapped up our 113TH Annual Fall Executive Leadership and Management Convention September 11-13, 2016, in Summerlin, Nevada. This year's keynote speakers, Ross Shafer, Ross Shafer Consultants, Inc. and Jeffrey Birnbaum, President of BGR Public Relations and a Former Reporter, Editor and Fox News Political Analyst, absolutely knocked it out of the park. RMEL Report, July 2016

It's officially summer, and I hope the heat outside is keeping the meters running! Today, I want us all to think back to summers in high school and college and think about a group of 36 2016 RMEL Foundation Scholarship recipients who are right now taking summer classes, working summer internships and thinking about their future careers in the electric energy industry. You all and everyone who has supported the RMEL Foundation for the last 16 years have helped these kids learn about this great world of opportunity that we share in this industry.  It's exciting for them, and it's exciting for us - and there is so much more that we can all to do continue growing the talent of the electric energy workforce.  Read more...

Happy Spring!
This is always an exciting and busy time for RMEL as we have just jumped right into the year with so many great events planned by RMEL's Section Education Committees. You've probably now seen the phrase "RMEL's March Madness" quite a bit. Regardless of how many of us had our NCAA brackets busted with our poor picks, the RMEL Section Committees made our March Madness a huge success. From generation to the delivery - it was all covered in March. The Power Supply Planning and Projects Conference was March 1-2; the Transmission Planning and Operations Conference was March 8-9; and the Distribution Overhead and Underground Operations and Maintenance Conference was March 15-16. Read more...

RMEL Report, February 2016

It's been almost five years since I became the Executive Director of RMEL and in that time I've had the pleasure to work with an outstanding group of industry leaders - the RMEL Board of Directors. Cheryl Mele has represented Austin Energy and Mike Morris has been the Board Director from Zachry Group. They joined the RMEL Board of Directors around the same time that I joined the staff. These are two people who have shown great contribution and are always engaged and passionate about this association.  They are both leaving the Board of Directors, and I just want to recognize their great work and thank them for everything. They have certainly worked RMEL's mission at their companies and throughout the industry. Read more...
